Minoxidil 5% is a lotion for external use on the scalp. The active ingredient minoxidil is present at a concentration of 50 mg/ml. TRIX Basic Minoxidil 5% is used for androgenetic alopecia, also known as hereditary hair loss, and for alopecia areata, a form of localised hair loss.
For which types of hair loss is Minoxidil used?
With androgenetic alopecia, hair thinning usually develops gradually. In men, changes are often visible at the temples, hairline, or crown. In women, the central part often becomes wider or hair density on the top of the head decreases.
Alopecia areata is usually characterised by round or oval, clearly defined bald patches. Because different types of hair loss can look similar, professional assessment is advisable when the cause is unclear or the hair loss starts suddenly or increases rapidly.
How do you use TRIX Basic Minoxidil 5%?
Apply 2 ml once daily to a dry scalp. Create one or more partings in the hair, distribute the lotion over the scalp, and wash your hands afterwards. Allow the lotion to absorb for at least four hours before wetting or washing your hair.
Use the lotion only on the scalp and avoid contact with the eyes, mucous membranes, and damaged skin. Do not use a double amount if you forget an application.
When can you expect changes?
The hair cycle progresses slowly. According to the package leaflet, an initial effect may be expected from approximately six months after starting treatment. The maximum result may only be achieved after prolonged and consistent use.
Temporary increased hair shedding may occur during the first few weeks. This shedding is listed as a possible side effect in the package leaflet and usually resolves within a few weeks. Contact a doctor or pharmacist if the hair loss worsens, you are concerned about its progression, or no result is visible after twelve months.
Why is consistent use important?
Minoxidil must be applied daily and in accordance with the instructions for use. Interrupting or stopping treatment may cause hair loss to increase again. Never use more than the recommended amount in the expectation of achieving faster results.
Who should not use Minoxidil 5%?
Do not use TRIX Basic Minoxidil 5% if you are allergic to minoxidil, benzyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, or rosemary oil. Do not use the lotion on a scalp with wounds, inflammation, sunburn, or psoriasis.

Possible side effects and when to stop
Common side effects include itching, dry or flaky skin, redness, a burning sensation, headache, and unwanted hair growth outside the treated area.
Stop using the product immediately and contact a doctor if you experience severe skin reactions, chest pain, sudden weight gain, swelling, or breathing difficulties. Always read the complete package leaflet before first use.
Contents and shelf life
The package contains a 100 ml bottle with a pipette. After opening, the lotion can be kept for a maximum of 70 days. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and do not use it after the expiry date.
